With so many changes in the Organic Industry in the last 6 months, it certainly has been a busy second half of the year.
One of the biggest and certainly most memorable events for our team at Organic Systems and Solutions was when our CEO Marg was honoured with the Chairman's Award at the Australia Organic Awards in Adelaide. Congratulations go to Tash & Wayne from Peninsula Fresh Organics who were also awarded the Chairman's Award. For our full write up on all award winners, click the link below.

Marg has notched up quite a few Frequent Flyer points throughout the year with multiple trips around Australia and quite a few overseas. Just recently she returned from Singapore, after being a key speaker at the Ecovia Sustainable Foods Summit. Whilst flying the flag and exhibiting the great work of the Australian organic industry, standards and brands, she provided a valuable and engaging presentation on the future of sustainability certifications schemes.

For the past 13 months, we have been participating in the Australian Organic Industry Working Group (AOIWG), which has contributed to a report into the strategic planning process needed for the Australian Organic Industry.
To view the process to date visit https://www.onevoice.organicindustries.com.au/WorkingGroup
There is also the major development with the commencement of the RIS (Regulation Impact Study)process by Deloitte. The Export Control (Organic Produce Certification) Orders are subject to a sunset clause, such that it will expire after 30 June 2020. The orders have underpinned the National Standard for organic products—both for export and in the domestic market.
This review of the arrangements is to determine what action it should take (if any). The review is expected to report by no later than 30 June 2018.
Everyone is able to comment on the RIS process - just contact us for further information.

Some great news recently for the Appleton family out of Alpha, celebrating the sale of their first organic progeny.
The Appleton’s are a multigenerational family operation, who run their organic breeding and fattening business over seven properties covering 194,653ha in the Alpha and Belyando Crossing districts. The herd is a “Licorice Allsorts”, according to Mr Appleton, made up of Brahman, Charolais, Santa Gertrudis, Angus, and Droughtmaster genetics.
Mr Appleton said it was exciting to finally make their first organic sales, with the majority of this year’s steers and heifers going to Arcadian Organic and Natural Meat Co. This article appeared in the Queensland Country Life and can be read in full here; http://www.queenslandcountrylife.com.au/story/5068267/first-organic-sales-at-islay-plains/

We love trying new organic products as they become more readily available to consumers, so we have put together a few of our favourites.

We are obsessed with the Cashew Cheese Spread from Peace, Love & Vegetables
This Organic Cashew Cheese spread is one of our favs because it tastes simply delicious and spreads easily on our next favourite item. It is about $12 and we buy this from our local green grocer.

Our next top choice is the organic bread from Ancient Grains. This loaf of bread somehow retains moisture and we believe it’s well made and oh so yummy! It should be available at your local organic market, but also at Wray Organics. The fruit loaf is about $8 and totally worth it.

Our next pick has to be a drink! What’s better than one of the top trends right now, Kombucha! We are loving Remedy’s organic Kombucha!! Raspberry Lemonade is our fav flavour, and not only does it taste great but all of the live cultures in it are amazing for your gut health. It is becoming more popular and is now available in service stations, large supermarkets as well as smaller health food shops for about 4 dollars.

Next on our list, is the Creamy Avocado Dressing by Ozganics – this avocado dressing is super creamy and for a vegan friendly sauce the consistency is hard to get anywhere else. We have been adding it to our salads! A lot of vegan sauces don’t taste the best as they are made with too much soy, but we think Ozganics has got it just right, and for roughly 5 dollars a bottle, we think its a steal.

AND of course, we couldn’t forget the dessert!! Who can go past Pana Chocolate?
Simply because it is the best! Find these little guys at most health food stores, or online for about 8 dollars for a small bar.
