Demand for organic food prompts Woolworths to launch $30 million fund

Rising demand for organic food has prompted Woolworths supermarkets to offer $30 million in incentives to fruit and vegetable farmers to either convert to the pesticide and herbicide-free method of production, or scale-up their current organic businesses.

According to Woolworths, there has been huge growth in the organic produce sector, at a rate of 20 per cent year-on-year over the past five years.

To meet demand, the company has launched a $30 million Woolworths Organic Growth Fund in partnership with Heritage Bank that will offer conventional and organic fruit and vegetable farmers grants and interest-free loans over the next five years to either begin organic farming or grow their existing organic production.
